Laborations

A series of laborations were made looking for ways of taking advantage of the crystallization process and the properties of the materiality. Often using soft materials like thread and fabric which then were shaped by the salt or sugar crystals. This method of working has led to unpredictable results where the level of control is limited.

A solution of water and salt, MgSO4, is mixed together and fully saturated by adding heat and additional salt. The solution cool down and a object/form is lowered down into the container. As the temperature of the solution decreases, waters ability to hold the salt is depressed and crystals form on to the object/form.
