Concept model

Concept model: Fredrik Eens Minne – Hem för ensama mödrar, Nordic Architecture, ACE360, Chalmers Architecture, Masters MPARC, spring 2024.

One of the multiple combinations of the “playing blocks” that configure this free-scale deconstruction, showing the children perspective of it. Note the blank rooms as a way to convey rooms that the kid doesn’t have access or memories of, thus doesn’t exist.

Scale: Free scale, deformed perspectives and measurements.
Materials: Solid Pine Wood – Plywood for details.

The purpose of the concept model was to look at the building from a child’s perspective. The coloured wooden blocks refer to a child’s playing blocks, but also to the way a child interprets a building; Some rooms feel huge, some forbidden, some safe, some boring, and some never at the same place that you last found it. And if you use your imagination, a room can be whatever you want it to be?

When correctly joined togehter, the blocks conform a shape eerily similar to the real bulding, but hides away all the children’s views, stories, colours and sensations of living inside it and experiencing the different rooms.
