Technical part
Materials
Special attention has been given to the materials needed for the renovation. For the cladding, the flooring, and load-bearing elements it was decided to use re-used components. This was made possible thanks to the website Opalis, which gathers re-used materials from Belgium, France, and the Nederlands. I did not choose one material specifically instead, I gathered various that could fit for one function. It offers a perspective of what is possible and available.
Regarding the insulation, it was decided to use new natural insulation to ensure good performances of the building’s envelope. A comparative list was made to assess different natural insulation. In the end, wood fiber and foam glass were the ones chosen.
Details
As the existing plans received were not very detailed, I had to guess a part of the composition of the building’s components.
The new details composition is done in regards to match high performances. The u-value and the LCA were calculated for each element.
